Mainly living in Germany? Check other options first.
The terms exclude people spending more than 180 days per calendar year in Germany and those subject to German compulsory public health insurance. Check cover appropriate to your residence status.
Choose your cover area
The zone defines where you are covered; Basic, Comfort and Premium define the benefits.
Worldwide, excluding China, Singapore and the USA
For eligible stays in other countries. The €40/month starting rate applies to this zone.
Worldwide, including China and Singapore, excluding the USA
For routine cover in China or Singapore, check Zone 2 and the policy’s home-country definition.
Worldwide, including China, Singapore and the USA
For longer stays or routine medical cover in the USA, check Zone 3.
Zones 1 and 2 generally include medical emergency cover for trips to higher zones for up to 42 days per trip. This does not cover routine treatment or travel for treatment.
Including China in your zone does not remove home-country exclusions. The current terms limit the 180-day home-country extension to EU/Schengen home countries. If your Heimatland is China, obtain written confirmation first. Nationality or permanent residence can determine your home country.

‘Year’ means calendar year. Dentures and orthodontics generally have a 10-month waiting period, with accident exceptions; orthodontics is limited to people under 20. Check-up and visual aid limits apply over 2 full calendar years; for a mid-year start, these benefits begin the following year. Pregnancy complications remain subject to medical necessity and pre-existing condition restrictions.
Check premiums for your age, zone and deductible
A higher deductible generally lowers the monthly premium but increases your share of treatment costs. Health assessment may result in surcharges or exclusions.
Zero-deductible premiums from €130/month
| Zone | Basic | Comfort | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | €130 | €230 | €250 |
| Zone 2 | €195 | €345 | €375 |
| Zone 3 | €320 | €529 | €550 |
Three annual deductible options
Choose €0, €1,200 or €3,600 per calendar year. For a mid-year start, the first-year deductible is prorated by full calendar months from the start month.
Covered dental care, preventive examinations and vaccinations are exempt from the deductible under the terms. Exemptions do not add benefits excluded from your plan.

Before you apply
An open-ended maximum term is subject to continuing eligibility, the selected zone and acceptance conditions.
Health assessment & pre-existing conditions
A video health interview is required. Pre-existing conditions are assessed individually and may be accepted, subject to surcharges or exclusions, or declined.
Previous insurance & general waiting period
Previous health insurance is required and must have expired no more than 12 months before the new start date. A gap generally triggers a 31-day waiting period. Accidents after cover starts follow the policy terms.
Special waiting periods
Routine maternity care, dentures and orthodontics generally have a 10-month waiting period, with eligible accident exceptions. Premium vision correction such as LASIK has a waiting period of 2 full calendar years.
Start date, cancellation & changes
Cover can start up to 4 months after application. The minimum term is 12 months; afterwards, cancellation is generally possible at the end of the following month under the terms. Zone or plan changes may require a new health assessment.
Check your policy-defined home country (Heimatland)
The home country recorded in your application is determined by nationality or permanent residence rights. The current terms limit the extension of up to 180 days/calendar year to EU/Schengen home countries. Before visiting or living in China, confirm your home-country status, zone and written scope of cover.
Can I arrange future cover or suspend it later?
Ask about the separate Option Plan (AWV). Subject to its own eligibility, age and time limits, it allows advance health assessment for later activation or an eligible suspension. No Care Expat World medical benefits are payable during the option period.
How to apply
STU explains the plans and application process in English. The insurer decides on acceptance.
Check residence and previous cover
Have your date of birth, country of residence, home country, proposed start date and previous insurance details ready.
Choose your cover and apply
Select a zone, Basic/Comfort/Premium and an annual deductible, then complete the application.
Complete the video health interview
The product service provider arranges the assessment. Prepare your medical history and recent treatment records as requested.
Check your acceptance documents
Review the start date, premium, exclusions and waiting periods. A website enquiry or estimate does not activate cover.
Care Expat World FAQs
Is Care Expat World the same as Care Expatriate?
No. Care Expat World is a separate product with Basic, Comfort and Premium plans, a 12-month minimum term and no fixed maximum term. Its rates, benefits and application conditions must be checked separately.
Who qualifies for the €40/month starting rate?
The rate applies to age band 0–24, Zone 1, Basic, with a €3,600 calendar-year deductible. Basic with a €0 deductible is €130/month for the same age band and zone. Final premiums depend on acceptance conditions, including health assessment.
Can I apply if I am already abroad?
Yes, subject to residence, previous insurance, actual age at entry and health assessment. Previous cover must have expired no more than 12 months before the new start date. An insurance gap generally triggers a 31-day waiting period.
Can I use it while living long term in Germany?
The terms exclude stays in Germany exceeding 180 days per calendar year and people subject to German compulsory public health insurance. If you mainly live in Germany, check cover appropriate to your status first.
Are visits to China automatically covered for 180 days/year?
No. Zones 2 and 3 include China but do not remove home-country exclusions. The current German terms limit the 180-day home-country extension to EU/Schengen home countries. If your Heimatland is China, obtain written confirmation first.
How is age calculated, and can cover continue after 65?
Pricing uses the calendar year of cover minus your birth year. New applicants must be under 65 on the actual start date; confirm eligibility near the age limit. Rates for ages 65+ apply to existing policyholders. Turning 65 does not automatically end existing cover, but continuing eligibility is required.
Can I apply with a pre-existing condition?
Yes, for individual assessment through a video health interview. The insurer may accept cover, apply surcharges or exclusions, or decline the application.
Do all plans include dental and maternity care?
Basic excludes routine dental and maternity care. Comfort and Premium include relevant benefits, generally with a 10-month waiting period for routine maternity care, dentures and orthodontics. Orthodontics is limited to people under 20. Emergency complications and accident exceptions follow the terms.
Is the deductible charged for every treatment?
It is a cumulative calendar-year amount, not a fixed charge per visit. Choose €0, €1,200 or €3,600. The first year is prorated by full calendar months for a mid-year start. Certain covered preventive, vaccination and dental benefits are exempt; benefit limits still apply.
Does requesting a quote activate cover?
No. Complete the application, health interview, acceptance and payment requirements. Cover starts only in accordance with the insurer’s documents and start conditions.
