All scholarship-funded PhD students under the age of 40 have the opportunity to join private health insurance.
PhD students under 35 can choose the S14 insurance, with a maximum coverage period of 5 years.
PhD students aged 35–40 can choose the Care College insurance.
The subscription period for private health insurance is flexible. You can cancel unconditionally by sending an email to the insurance company one month in advance. You can contact us for assistance with the process.
Some Care Concept insurance products allow you to pay the premium by bank transfer yourself. Usually, you will receive an email explaining how to transfer the payment to the company. The details are as follows:

Please ensure that the full premium amount is received, meaning that after any bank fees, the amount credited must equal the insurance premium.
Yes, you can. If you are a student under 30 years old, preparing to enroll in an undergraduate or master’s program, you are eligible for student insurance. You can apply for public student health insurance.
As Germany’s largest public health insurance provider, DAK, the insurance certificate can be used as proof of health insurance for your visa application.
If you enter Germany after the semester starts (winter semester: September 1 or October 1; summer semester: March 1 or April 1, depending on the university), you can use the public health insurance certificate for your visa application.
If you enter Germany before the semester starts, you can also submit the visa insurance to us, and we can provide a free visa insurance.
Please contact us before your arrival in Germany to provide your actual entry date so that we can activate the visa insurance for you.
Yes, you can. Whether you are a student or a working professional, you can apply to switch insurance on this site. Fill out the insurance application form, where there is an option for “Current Insurance”. Regardless of whether your current insurance is private or another public insurance, you can apply to join DAK insurance.
We will handle the cancellation of your old contract and related matters. You just need to wait for our confirmation email and your new DAK insurance card.

No, you don’t need to. Since 2022, German regulations require the insurance company to directly communicate with your university. We will immediately send the digitale Meldung 10 (M10) digital registration information to the school.
If you change universities, simply provide us with the new university’s enrollment email. We will take care of the rest for you.
